Embark on a captivating journey that travels from the rugged Alaskan wilderness to the heart of a mid-century American kitchen. This performance begins with a moving tribute to the strength and resilience of the Alaskan spirit in Barbara Harbach’s Pioneer Women: From Skagway to White Mountain. Through a beautiful blend of singing, piano, and clarinet, the piece paints a vivid musical portrait of life on the frontier. The program then takes a charmingly lighthearted turn with Bon Appétit!, a one-act operatic monologue based on the legendary Julia Child. This comical tribute captures Julia’s infectious joy and culinary mishaps as she demonstrates the art of the perfect chocolate cake. To complete the experience, the afternoon concludes with a social reception where guests will enjoy a delicious serving of that very same famous chocolate cake alongside fresh coffee.
