Auditions for principal and secondary roles in St. Louis (STL) or New York (NYC)
Deadline:
Friday, May 29th, 2026, for St. Louis and June 5,2026, for New York Auditions
Materials Required – Only applications with ALL requested information will be considered !

- What roles are you auditioning for
- Whether you will be auditioning live in St. Louis or New York

- Two (2) professional/organization references – Email or Phone Number Only
- 2 recording links to audio or video recordings and websites only
- $20 audition fee for LIVE audition in STL- ONLY IF YOU ARE GRANTED A LIVE AUDITION
- $35 audition fee for LIVE audition in NYC – ONLY IF YOU ARE GRANTED A LIVE AUDITION
- $10 application fee for artists that bring their own accompanist
- Additional skills you would like us to know about
***Once you are granted an audition, we will give you instructions on how to pay the audition fee. (If you were cast in Season 19, you do not need to pay)

Only qualified artists will be granted an audition.

Audition Requirements
- Prepare 4-5 arias from memory if you are auditioning for a principal or comprimario role
- Audition pieces must be in the role’s original language. If an aria exists for your character, please prepare it; otherwise, choose a selection by the same composer that demonstrates appropriate vocal and dramatic suitability for the role.
- If you are auditioning for the role of Tony in Most Happy Fella, you must prepare the song – Rosabella, or Mama, Mama in the appropriate accent, by memory with the dialogue.
- A monologue may be required for the roles of Tony, Joe, Marie, & Rosabella for The Most Happy Fella only. Please note: Not all principal artists will be asked to perform a monologue. The general director will determine its necessity at the time of your audition. Monologue does not have to be memorized. - If you are auditioning for Chorus, please prepare 2-3 arias or art songs – St. Louis locals ONLY
Opportunity Information
Housing is provided in St. Louis
*Please note that transportation will no longer be provided to and from rehearsals in St. Louis*
Artists that drive will receive $600 in gas reimbursement
Artists that fly to St. Louis will receive round trip transportation from your originating city, plus $300 in travel stipend.
*All airline tickets will be purchased by Winter Opera St. Louis.
*Winter Opera St. Louis will not pay for luggage fees.
Our artist fees for comprimario and principal roles range from $800-$2,500.
Artists are brought in two and a half weeks before the production to rehearse.
Rehearsals are no more than six hours per day.
Chorus is hired locally
Most comprimario roles are cast locally
