We're so excited to debut the posters for our Season 19 operas! Each one features a classic work of art chosen to capture the spirit of the story on stage. Here is a look at the inspiration behind each design.The SorcererFor this show, we wanted a poster that felt both magical and a little mischievous. The vintage poster for magician Harry Kellar was the perfect match, with its classic imagery of lightning bolts and a levitating woman that perfectly captures the theatrical world of our show.Un Ballo in MascheraVerdi's opera is a story of love, betrayal, and a fatal duel. To represent this tension, we chose Jean-Léon Gérôme's dramatic painting, The Duel After the Masquerade. The contrast between the festive masquerade costumes and the grim reality of the duel perfectly mirrors the opera's tragic themes.Romeo and JulietTo capture the profound romance of Romeo and Juliet, we turned to Frank Dicksee's painting of the same name.
